Same domain name for emails and website but emails are hosted on different server/by different company.

So:
www.example.com - website host server
info@example.com - emails host server

I can't figure out what to do with MX Records setup and if I need to setup anything else...
Emails just wont get delivered for now... without any error notification...

I have set MX Records to 'remote' with email server details, but still nothing...

What am I missing?

Any Geek that can help around?

mail.example.com needs an A record, pointing to an IP address of the mail server ( and mail.example.com needs to be configured on the mailserver )
example.com needs an MX record, with priority 10, pointing to the IP address of the mail server host.

So, it would look like:

mail.example.com in A -> 192.168.0.10 ( fictional IP )
example.com in MX priority 10 ->192.168.0.10

Alternatively, your email host probably has some spam protection, and already have mx records in place. In which case you should use their mx records!

mail.example.com in A -> 192.168.0.10 ( fictional IP )
example.com in MX priority 10 -> mx10.yourmailhost.com

I got the MX Records set up, as per instructions for that email server - http://www.rackspace.com/apps/support/portal/1148
(I got that link sent from some IT guy serving the client AFTER I have already done it, but oh well...)

I understand what you were saying in game Nam, but A record for 'mail.domain.com' is out of question in my opinion here - I already got the MX Record pointing at email servers.

'mail.domain.com' in this case is pointing at 'domain.com' using CNAME, and domain.com has MX Records set to be remote as mentioned above - so in theory everything should work!

:(

Still confused, thanks for trying though Nam!
Will keep searching for a solution.

Shas,

It might help if you show your dns config in cpanel.
Think its easier to explain.

I have a CPanel server myself aswell and my partner in crime (hosting business) might know how to solve your problem.
i wanted to post a screenie from one my own dns zones, but its a bit to big.
